Argentina Sets Prices for Citizenship by Investment
On 2 October 2026 Argentina announced a USD 350,000 contribution or a USD 800,000 bond for citizenship, with applications due to open in Q4 2026.
Argentina has set the terms of its citizenship by investment programme. Economy Minister Luis Caputo and Cabinet Chief Diego Santilli presented it in Paris on 2 October 2026, during an investment week for Argentina, and the Ministry of Economy published the details the same day. Reuters called it South America’s first programme of its kind.
What was announced
| Applicant | Amount | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Main applicant, Treasury route | USD 350,000, non-refundable | Official |
| Main applicant, bond route | USD 800,000 government bond | Official |
| Spouse | USD 100,000 | Official |
| Child aged 18 to 25, single, without children | USD 100,000 | Official |
| Child under 18 | USD 25,000 | Official |
The ministry’s own example: a couple with two children under 18 pays USD 500,000 on the Treasury route. All funds must move through the formal financial system under anti-money-laundering rules.
When it opens
The ministry says the programme will be ready to receive applications during the fourth quarter of 2026. The agency’s implementing rules, the bond’s terms, government fees, processing times and forms were not published with the announcement. IMI Daily reported that the criteria for accrediting agents were expected in about a month.
How applications will be checked
According to the ministry, the Agencia de Programas de Ciudadanía por Inversión (APCI) will lead due diligence with the intelligence service, the Financial Intelligence Unit and the security and interior ministries. Checks cover identity, the origin and traceability of funds, assets, jurisdictional risk, criminal and reputational background and immigration history, to standards the ministry describes as aligned with OECD and FATF recommendations. The Dirección Nacional de Migraciones makes the final decision.
What the minister said
Caputo described Argentina as “a beacon of freedom and investment in the world”, according to the ministry’s release, and predicted the programme would probably be the most successful of its kind, as reported by IMI Daily. He called the bond a zero-rate bond, according to Bloomberg Línea.
What changed from 2025
When the plan was first floated in May 2025, officials spoke of investments of more than USD 500,000. The October 2026 entry price is lower, and USD 500,000 is now the four-person family total.
What it means for readers
The figures are now fixed for the main routes, but the full cost is not: fees are still to be published, and the legal basis faces challenges in court. Our cost breakdown works through every household size, and the programme overview tracks what is still pending.
