The basics

What is the Argentina citizenship by investment programme?

A route to Argentine citizenship by naturalisation for foreigners who make a qualifying investment, with no prior residence required. It rests on DNU 366/2025, which amended the citizenship law, and is run by the Agencia de Programas de Ciudadanía por Inversión (APCI). The government announced its prices on 2 October 2026.

Is the programme open for applications?

Not yet. The government says applications open during Q4 2026. The implementing rules, government fees, processing times and forms had not been published when this page was last checked.

Is this the same as an Argentina golden visa?

No. A golden visa usually means a residence permit. This programme grants citizenship itself. Argentina also has residence permits, such as the rentista permit for people with passive income, which are separate from the investment programme.

Who runs the programme?

The Agencia de Programas de Ciudadanía por Inversión (APCI), under the Ministry of Economy, receives and vets applications. The Dirección Nacional de Migraciones (DNM) makes the final decision on its recommendation.

Cost and investment

How much does Argentine citizenship by investment cost?

The main applicant chooses between a non-refundable contribution of USD 350,000 to the National Treasury and a USD 800,000 government bond. Government fees are not published yet, so neither figure is a full total.

What does it cost to include my family?

A spouse adds USD 100,000, each child aged 18 to 25 who is single and has no children adds USD 100,000, and each child under 18 adds USD 25,000. A couple with two young children on the contribution route pays USD 500,000 in contributions.

Is there a real estate option?

No real estate route has been announced. The two routes are the Treasury contribution and the government bond.

Do I get the bond money back?

The minister described it as a zero-rate bond. A seven-year term with principal returned at maturity has been reported, but the bond’s terms have not been published.

Applying

Do I need to live in Argentina?

No. The amended law grants citizenship for a relevant investment whatever the length of residence. Whether an in-person visit, for example for biometrics, is needed has not been confirmed.

How long will it take?

No official processing time has been published. Some firms in the industry expect around six months, but that is their expectation, not a government figure.

Do I need to speak Spanish?

No language requirement has been announced either way. Check the implementing rules when they are published.

What checks will I go through?

The government says due diligence covers identity, the origin and traceability of funds, criminal and reputational background and immigration history, with reports from the intelligence service, the Financial Intelligence Unit and other agencies.

Passport, tax and law

How strong is the Argentine passport?

It ranks 16th on the Henley Passport Index (October 2026), with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 169 destinations, including the Schengen area, the UK and Japan.

Can Argentines travel to the United States without a visa?

Not at present. Argentina left the Visa Waiver Program in 2002. A statement of intent to rejoin was signed in July 2025, and officials have named 2027 as a target.

Does Argentina allow dual citizenship?

Yes, Argentina does not ask you to give up your current nationality. Your current country may have its own rules, so check them.

Will I become tax resident in Argentina?

Not by citizenship alone. Ley 27.802 says naturalisation by investment does not by itself make someone tax resident in Argentina. Where you live and spend time still matters, so take tax advice.

Is the programme legally settled?

Not entirely. Two federal appeal courts ruled against the citizenship chapter of DNU 366/2025 in June 2026, in cases that were not about investment, and the government has appealed to the Supreme Court. Opposition deputies have also filed repeal bills.
